Programmes and courses

Throughout my career I’ve contributed to a wide range of apprenticeship and commercial programmes, working in two distinct roles that shaped how I approached design and development. As a curriculum design specialist, I focused on structure, alignment and quality assurance at programme level. As an instructional designer, I apply learner experience principles to bring curriculum intent to life through tone, interactivity and design collaboration.

My contribution

In this role, as a subject matter expert, I led the design and development of full apprenticeship programmes. I took ownership of scoping, sequencing and writing the learning content, drawing on sector knowledge to ensure full coverage with criteria and amplification. I created design briefs for multimedia content designers and, when working with Lifeways, worked with internal teams to ensure content met the brief and reflected the values and culture of the organisation. At this stage in my career, I was also developing my understanding of learner engagement, applying early principles of active learning and inclusive design to create resources that felt relevant and accessible while maintaining accuracy and rigour.

Collaboration was central to the role, ensuring that every programme maintained consistency in tone, structure and pedagogy while reflecting the individuality of the content writer. I created detailed design briefs for Multimedia Content Designers to make best use of the available time and skill, ensuring that creative energy was focused on assets that genuinely enhanced learning.

I applied our design and learner experience principles throughout, using a combination of existing knowledge, research, generative AI and critical evaluation to produce accurate, accessible and purposeful learning. I also developed detailed design briefs for multimedia content designers, ensuring that every asset contributed meaningfully to learner understanding and engagement.

Learning platform configuration and translation

During our LMS migration project, I was also responsible for translating builds across all sectors from our Fuse platform, MyLife, into Aptem. To do this, I needed to understand the structure of each apprenticeship standard or framework to configure programme and learning plan builds that worked effectively for learners, coaches, quality and compliance. This involved programmes across hospitality, business and commerce, care and healthcare, leadership and management, and devolved nations. The work required both technical precision and a strong understanding of learning architecture to ensure each build met its purpose without compromising user experience.
